Oregon Outdoor Adventures
A Camp for the Wild & Curious
SOU Pre-College Youth Programs, the SOU Deer Creek Field Station and the Crater Lake Science & Learning Center have teamed together to create an environment where students can experience and explore the wonders of our natural environment.

This exciting new six day residential experience allows students the opportunity to explore a campus life that extends far beyond the traditional school setting. Students will stay several nights on the Southern Oregon University (SOU) Ashland campus, explore and camp at the SOU Deer Creek Field Station and at Crater Lake National Park. In addition students will discover the wonders of the Oregon Caves National Monument and canoe on the Klamath Marshes. All sessions, from “mini” classes at SOU, to hikes down to the pristine water of Crater Lake, will be delivered by professionals who are passionate about science and nature-related careers.
Activities
The Oregon Outdoor Adventure Camp curriculum is hands-on and includes classes and outdoor activities including:
- Upper Klamath Marsh Canoeing
- Evening Star Talks
- Laboratory classes at SOU
- Rogue River Gorge hike
- A day at the Oregon Caves
- Bird Watching & Bird Banding
- Crater Lake National Park Boat trip
- Earth Caching with GPS units
- Nightly Campfire and Games
- Exploring Deer Creek Field Station
- Camping in Yurts
- Stream exploration

When Can We Come?
Sunday - Saturday, July 19-25
All students arrive and check in on Sunday, July 19 between 2:00 and 3:00p at the campus of Southern Oregon University. Meals begin with dinner Sunday evening. Departure is mid-morning on Saturday, July 25 at SOU.
Residential Life:
Camp participants will stay several nights in the SOU dorms and eat in their award winning dining hall. They will board the Oregon Outdoor Adventure Camp vans and stay two nights in yurts at the SOU Deer Creek Field Station and then go on to camp at Crater Lake National Park. Each stay provides exciting outdoor lessons and guest presentations. Camping gear is provided.
