Level Two of the State Spelling Competition
Southern Oregon University Pre-College Youth Programs coordinates the Regional spelling Contest each year, which is level two of the State Spelling Contest sponsored by the Oregon Department of Education. Two counties were represented in the 38th annual competition on Saturday, May 10th in the Rogue River Room on Southern Oregon University's campus.
Following are the names of the winners for Division 1, grades 1st -5th , Division 2, grades 6th -8th, and Division 3, grades 9th -12th. Only the first place winners will participate in the State Spelling Contest on Saturday, August 30th at the Oregon State Fairgrounds, Salem.
In Division I (Grades K-5):
First Place - Cooper Johnson, Richardson Elementary School - Central Point SD
In Division II (Grades 6-8):
First Place- Michael Miles, St. Mary's School - Private
Division III (Grades 9-12):
Gabe Padilla, Hidden Valley High School - Three Rivers SD
The Oregon Statewide Spelling Championship had a record number of counties participating this year! There were 29 counties participating and 55 spellers registered.
