Pre-College/Youth Programs
SOML - Southern Oregon Mathematics League
The Southern Oregon Mathematics League conducts up to five math competitions throughout the year. Local high schools form up to 3 teams of 6 junior and senior advanced math students. The competition includes three individual events followed by a team collaboration. Three students from a team compete in each event. Competitions are scheduled in October, November, February and March. For more information, contact Dr. Kemble Yates in the SOU Department of Mathematics at (541) 552-6578.
2008 Results
13 schools from Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties representing 234 students participated in five meets during the 2007-2008 school year. These schools were divided into two divisions, 4A and 3A-2A. A total of 39 teams participated in all five meets with an additional 19 Junior SOML teams competing in the last meet. Members of the SOU mathematics faculty operated the meets. The coordinator, SOU Mathematics Professor Dr. Kemble Yates, supervised the preparation of questions, reports, and newsletters.
