2009-10 SOUTHERN OREGON MATHEMATICS LEAGUE

October 13, November 10, February 9, March 9, and April 13

Southern Oregon Mathematics League conducts five math competitions throughout the year. High schools form up to three teams of six junior and senior advanced math students. Competitions begin at 9:30 a.m. at North Medford High School. State math qualifying test is held in April at Southern Oregon University. 2010 STATE OF JEFFERSON SCAVENGER HUNT - MIDDLE SCHOOL

January 26, 27, 28, and February 2, 2010

Middle school teams have three days to find answers to academic, audio music tapes, current news, and Internet questions using library resources. The Hunt culminates in an adjudication session on Tuesday, February 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Southern Oregon University.

2010 STATE OF JEFFERSON SCAVENGER HUNT - HIGH SCHOOL

January 13, 14, 15 and 19, 2010

High school teams have three days to find answers to academic, audio music tapes, current news, and Internet questions using library resources. The Hunt culminates in an adjudication session on Tuesday, January 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Southern Oregon University.

2010 MIDDLE SCHOOL BRAIN BOWL

January 11 - March 5, 2010

Students in grades 6 - 8 compete in weekly games. Dates reflect eight weeks of competition. Culmination of the round robin competition is in April with a televised final match on Southen Oregon Public Television.

2010 JUNIOR VARSITY BRAIN BOWL

This is a preparatory competition for high school students to compete on a junior varsity team. These teams will play in their own brackets competing against other JV teams. The competition will be held at Southern Oregon University the same day as the Varsity Brain Bowl. Competition at this level ends the same day as the tournament with a winner determined. 

2010 VARSITY BRAIN BOWL

This is the premiere competition at the high school level. The winning team from this regional competition has an opportunity to represent Oregon at a national competition. Varsity Brain Bowl is an all-day event on Saturday, February 20 at SOU and a televised final will occur in April.

2010 BEST OF THE BEST ART SHOW

April 9-23, 2010

Talented and dedicated high school art students in grades 9-12 compete against each other for the opportunity to display their work in a professional setting and for the honor of theiir work being selected "Best of Show.". This year's show will be held at the Marion Ady Art Gallery at Southern Oregon University in Ashland.

2010 MIDDLE SCHOOL SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT

Using School Scrabble rules, the tournament consists of six games for students enrolled in grades 6-8. Each team consists of two players, and schools may enter as many teams as they wish. The event will be held on Saturday, April 24 at Southern Oregon University.

2010 SPELLING CONTEST

This regional spelling contest is held for students in grades 1-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Contests begin in March within each school district. School winners then compete against each other to determine the district representative for the regional contest held in May.
