2015

Varsity Bowl is the premier competition at the high school level. Teams generally include juniors and seniors who have competed on previous teams. The winning team from the regional competition has the opportunity to compete in a national competition. Varsity Brain Bowl was held on Saturday, February 28, 2015.

Junior Varsity Brain Bowl competition is a preparatory competition for high school students to compete on a junior varsity team. These teams played in their own brackets competing agains other JV teams. Junior Varsity Brain Bowl was held on Saturday, February 28, 2015.

This years 38th annual Southern Oregon Brain Bowl Competition had a total 19 teams competing in this year’s tournament held Saturday, February 28, 2015 on the Southern Oregon University campus.

Junior Varsity Division 2015

On February 28th, the Junior Varsity Brain Bowl competition for high school Freshmen and sophomores was held at SOU. There were 9 teams from nine high schools. At the conclusion of the round robin competition and  after some exciting semi-final action, St. Mary's School and Ashland High School were declared the winners and played each other for the Junior Varsity Championship. St. Mary's prevailed to become the Junior Varsity Brain Bowl Champion for 2015!

The 2015 Sportsmanship Awards were won by the South Medford JV team.  They were considerate, quiet and gracious…in addition to performing at a high level.

Semi-Finals

On February 28, 2015 15 brain bowl teams representing twelve high schools participated at SOU. At the conclusion of these matches, four high schools earned semi-finalist status:

At the conclusion of the Varsity competition, we had four semi-finalist teams: Ashland, North Medford, St. Mary's and Cascade Christian.  These teams earned the right to compete for the Varsity Brain Bowl High School Regional Championship title on Sunday, April 26th on SOPTV. 

The 2015 Varsity Sportsmanship Award was won by Phoenix High School Team. They were considerate, fun and gracious...while also performing at a very high level.

A very special thank you goes out to Steve Jensen and Kim Gabriel, who served as this year’s Brain Bowl Coordinators. We would also like to thank our volunteers and the many community volunteers who acted as moderators, score keepers and time keepers for the event.

We also extend our appreciation to the Jackson and Josephine County School Districts, Lithia Motors and Harry and David for helping to sponsor this competition and to Southern Oregon Public Television for televising the final Varsity matches.
