Pre-College/Youth Programs
Advanced Southern Credit
The Program
History
Southern Oregon University established the ASC program in 1978-79 with pilot programs at Central Point and Phoenix High Schools. Since that time, the program has been regularly evaluated by the university and high school faculties. Since 1985 we have followed the Guidelines for College Courses Taught for Credit in High Schools approved by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education on June 21, 1985 (meeting #527.)
Tuition
The ASC courses are taught at the individual high schools by high school instructors. Since these courses are "sponsored" by the participating high school, SOU is able to reduce the normal tuition fee by a considerable amount. The tuition for an ASC course is currently twenty-five dollars per credit hour. Considering that a 2007-08 state funded four-credit undergraduate course's tuition can be over $500, ASC offers substantial savings to the student
Administration
The SOU Extended Campus Programs staff with cooperation from participating schools and instructors will administer registrations, tuition payments, processing of submitted grades, course withdrawals/tuition refunds and calendar issues. Any questions related to Advanced Southern Credit Issues should be directed to the High School to College Transition Programs staff.
