ACADEMY
The Program
Students arrive Sunday evening for check in and orientation. Classes begin on Monday and continue through Friday. The daily schedule includes four one-hour classes plus special presentations built around the years theme. ACADEMY 2008 students select course offerings from humanities, mathematics, science, social studies, and fine and performing arts. After-class programs are coordinated with in-class activities to provide supervised recreation as well as academic challenges. Attending an evening theatrical production is one of the highlights of the week. ACADEMY 2008 concludes Saturday morning with the presentation of certificates and a closing ceremony for students and their families. Administrative and residential staff carefully supervise the 12-person living groups. Students develop close friendships with fellow students from around the country.
CRITERIA
To be considered for ACADEMY 2008 students must be highly motivated with a love of learning. Generally, ACADEMY students exhibit the ability to quickly explore topics in great depth and often require services beyond those provided by the regular school system. Students often demonstrate at least one of the following:
- Measured intelligence above average
- Proven leadership ability
- A special talent
- Exceptional ability in the visual and performing arts
- Unusual creative or productive thinking ability
JUNE 15–21 Session A — Students completing grades 5 & 6. All students arrive on campus Sunday evening June 15 between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. for check in and orientation. Departure is Saturday morning on June 23. Closing Ceremonies begin at 10:30am.
JUNE 22–28 Session B — grades 5–6. Session C — grades 7–8. This week consists of two concurrent sessions with separate programs for students completing grades 5 and 6 and grades 7 and 8. Students for both sessions arrive on campus Sunday evening June 22 between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. for registration and orientation. Departure is Saturday morning June 28. Closing Ceremonies begin at 10:30am.
ACADEMY FEES
Residential student fees include: tuition, activities, housing, meals, and supervision.....$625
Junior Counselor fee includes: tuition, activities, housing, meals, and supervision...... $425
PLEASE NOTE: A $25 non-refundable application fee should accompany the student’s application. Tuition Payment ($625) in full is expected after the student is accepted to ACADEMY.
