Dale Luciano, Professor
Directing and Dramatic Literature
Professor Luciano worked professionally in films and theatre as an actor and a director before he began his teaching career. He was a member of the teaching faculty at the University of Arizona in Tucson prior to being appointed Chair of SOU Theatre Arts, a position he held from 1985 to 2000.
At SOU, he has directed productions of Aeschylus' epic Oresteia trilogy, The Cherry Orchard, Six Characters In Search of An Author, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Woyzeck (his own adaptation) and Alan Ayckbourn's Comic Potential. He most recently directed Adam Bock's Swimming in the Shallows.
His translation of Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi was recently performed Off-Broadway at the Chashama Performance Space in New York City.
Dr. Luciano teaches courses in directing, dramatic literature and iconography. He holds a BA and an MA from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and he holds his doctorate from the University of Iowa.
