Dale Luciano, Emeritus Professor
Directing and Dramatic Literature
Professor Luciano worked professionally in films and theatre as an actor and a director before he began his teaching career. He was a member of the teaching faculty at the University of Arizona in Tucson prior to being appointed Chair of SOU Theatre Arts, a position he held from 1985 to 2000.
At SOU, he has directed productions of Aeschylus' epic Oresteia trilogy, The Cherry Orchard, Six Characters In Search of An Author, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Woyzeck (his own adaptation), Alan Ayckbourn's Comic Potential, Adam Bock’s Swimming in the Shallows, Blithe Spirit and Love’s Labor’s Lost.
His translation/adaptation of Alfred Jarry's notorious Ubu Roi was performed Off-Broadway at the Chashama Performance Space in New York City.
Dr. Luciano teaches courses in dramatic literature and performance theory. He holds a BA and an MA from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and he holds his doctorate from the University of Iowa.
