Jackie Apodaca

Head of Performance

Jackie joins the SOU faculty after a decade of teaching at University of California at Santa Barbara, where she taught acting, directing, auditions, film and digital production, and Hollywood Industry. She received her BFA in theatre at UC Santa Barbara, with high honors and distinction in the major, and earned an MFA in acting from the National Theatre Conservatory under the guidance of Royal Shakespeare Company founding member, Tony Church.

She has worked in theatre for over twenty years, with companies such as The Roundabout Theatre Company, The Denver Center Theatre Company, Summer Repertory Theatre, ONE Theatre Group, and The Elephant Theatre Company, which produced her play, My Only Hopeless in 1996.

She served for many years as the Producing Director of Shakespeare Santa Barbara (SSB), a non-profit theatre company devoted to bringing the classics to Santa Barbara and the central California Wine country. For SSB she directed The Taming of The Shrew, and played Helena in A Midsummer Nights Dream, Viola in Twelfth Night, Mistress Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, and Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing. During her years in Los Angeles, Jackie was the Associate Artistic Director of Venice Theatre Works and a Resident Artist at The Uprising Theatre Company.

Jackie has appeared in several Indie films and numerous commercials for companies such as Scotch-Brite, Lexus, Jeep, Panda Express, Kragen, HBO, Lifetime, and TLC. She spent several years as Head of Production for Modern Media; a Los Angeles based commercial production company. She has also worked for companies such as National Geographic, Graphic Films, SK Films, and Tuck and Go Productions and has chased tornados with IMAX film director Sean Casey.

Currently, she is a contributing editor for the actors' trade paper, Back Stage, where she writes a weekly column, “The Craft.” She wrote the paper’s popular, “Working Actor” column for over 9 years.
