Sustainability Initiatives Being Implemented at Southern Oregon University
A 55-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system will be installed at the Higher Education Center in the summer of 2009.
Two of the four boilers in the Central Heat Plant have been replaced with energy-efficient boilers. The replacement of the other two boilers will be bid in May 2009 and completed by September 2010.
The existing buried diesel fuel tank at the Central Heat Plant has been decommissioned.
Eleven remaining manual irrigation systems on campus are being replaced with automatic irrigation systems to reduce water consumption.
In the recent seating replacement project for the Music Building’s Recital Hall, 463 existing auditorium seats were donated to regional organizations for re-use.
In the Mulkey Auditorium Remodel in Churchill Hall, 144 existing auditorium seats were donated to regional organizations for re-use.
Energy-efficient lighting will be installed in 13 laboratories and classrooms in the Science Building in the summer of 2009.
