Dr. Peter Angstadt, President Rogue Community College

SUBJECT: Photovoltaic Development Project - Medford Higher Education Center

Dear Drs. Cullinan and Angstadt:

The Southern Oregon University Sustainability Council and its energy experts have reviewed the highlights of the Commercial Solar Ventures proposal for the 80 KW solar electric array that has been suggested as a renewable energy component to the new RCC/SOU Higher Education Center in Medford.

The Council considers the proposition to be extremely attractive, and very much in tune with the educational community's strong general interest in participating in environmental protection.   The proposal appears very sound to us.  It also clearly has several levels of long term benefits.  The ability of the contractors to take full advantage of state and federal tax incentives makes this project possible.  The costs to SOU and RCC are very attractive indeed.

In fact, The Council has been sufficiently impressed by the proposal that it is now investigating a similar approach for expanding our current photovoltaic array on the Hannon Library and other facilities on the Ashland campus.

We recommend that this project be fully considered, as it will clearly be in the financial and public relations interests of both institutions.

Sincerely,

Eric Dittmer, Chair

SOU Sustainability Council
