If you are applying to be a Master's candidate, complete the preliminary application request form and send it in with your application fee, resume, two letters of recommendation that address your teaching and language experience, a statement of your educational philosophy, and official sealed transcripts from all universities previously attended.
In addition, to demonstrate your Spanish language proficiency, all candidates must submit a copy of an ACTFL certified oral proficiency interview rating. To set up your ACTFL interview, follow this link and fill out the appropriate application form. The process to set up the interview and receive the results can take several weeks, so you should begin as soon as possible.
Applications must be postmarked by February 19. Once we receive the preliminary request form, we will send a separate SOU graduate admission application.
If you are applying as a non-Master's student, complete the non-MA preliminary request form and send it in with your application fee and ACTFL OPI rating.
We will mail acceptance letters in March. At that time we will send information regarding housing and course registration along with travel insurance and liability forms that you must complete. An initial tuition payment of $500 is due April 2. Full balance of tuition is due May 3.
The program is limited to 22 participants per cohort. Masters candidates must be currently teaching Spanish at the middle school, high school or community college level and must have taught for one year.
NOTE: At this point, you are simply submitting an application. Submitting an application is not a guarantee of admission. All applications will be reviewed by the SLI Selection Committee and successful candidates will be notified via mail.

Financial Aid
Only master's candidates are eligible for financial aid. In order to receive financial aid, you must fill out the current year FAFSA. This will determine if you are eligible for financial aid and if so, how much aid you are eligible to receive. You also must have completed the graduate application form (which we send you after you are accepted to the program) and be admitted as a graduate student. Since this is a master's program, only federal loans (not direct grants) are available. Alternative loans (loans that the Oregon University system gives to students) may also be available. Money is not dispersed until the first day of class. Information about financial aid and the FAFSA is located on the financial aid website.
