Ramayana is a 24,000-verse text from India written in Sanskrit that presents the teachings of ancient Hindu sages through the story of Lord Rama.
Artifacts from the Lily Hearn History of Writing and Printing Collection are now on display in the Hannon Library. Hearn and her husband, Joseph acquired the extensive collection during their travels across the globe. The collection includes ancient religious texts, manuscripts, paintings, and carved objects, some dating back as far as 2034 B.C.
During her years teaching a course on the History of Writing, Printing and Libraries at San Bernardino Valley College, Hearn shared items from her personal collection with her students. Through the gift of this collection she hopes to once again share the benefits of these cultural relics with students.
“I want the young people, especially, to appreciate the treasures that were developed over the long road to the technologically dominated present,” she said.
