The annual Black and White Affair mixed fun with sex education, last Thursday night.

The event, put on by the Queer Resource Center, encouraged students to wear their sexiest and skimpiest attire. Covered genitals and nipples were the only stipulations. Eager for any opportunity to dress in as little as possible, the dance was a hit with students.

Diversions hosted the dance party, which ran from 9 p.m until after midnight. Keeping true to its name, the Black and White Affair requested that attendees wear outfits in black and white.

The pulsing dance floor was the playground of DJ DI3SEL, and the dancers’ white clothing glowed under the lights.

The music ranged from techno to remixes of popular songs. Austin Snell, a freshman with an undeclared major, said that he was a “really big fan of this music, and it was nice to hear it played.”

The dance also gave plenty of opportunity for attendees to receive safe sex education. Hosts gave tips throughout the night, such as “put on a condom with the roll facing out.” Condoms were freely accessible on tables outside Diversions, as were pamphlets about sex.

Katie Pitman, a freshman, loved the theme.

“It’s awesome. It’s really educational but still really fun,” said the pre-theater arts major.

Three contests were conducted throughout the evening and included condom balloon sculpting, races to see how fast one could put a condom on a wooden penis while blindfolded and, of course, a sexy contest.

“It was fun,” said Tom Maginnis, a senior computer science major and participant in the sexy contest. “But I was disappointed because I didn’t get picked!”

Eclectic prizes were given to the winners of the games. Pitman participated in the condom sculpture contest.

“We made a turkey out of the holiday spirit,” Pitman said. She then added, “And we won a paintable pecker.”

Raffle prizes were also available to win, and these included baskets of sex-related paraphernalia for the lucky winners.

The QRC was the main host of the event, but the WRC, the Health and Wellness Center, the RHA and the Area Council, among others, also assisted them.

Resident Assistants were told to refrain from talking about information relating to the Black and White Affair to the Siskiyou.
