Earthtribe
Community Garden
Mission:
We are more than just a vegetable growing garden. We are a community building
network sharing garden space to foster stewardship of the earth, sustainable
and self-sufficient food provision, and demonstration of various organic
gardening techniques and methods. Our goal is to turn the Earth Tribe
Community Garden into a vital and permanent part of the Southern Oregon
University and Ashland community by creating a complete demonstration
site and learning center for students, faculty, staff, and community members.
We will be incorporating traditional organic gardening methods with beneficial
methods offered via permaculture, biodynamics, and other sustainable gardening
and agricultural methods. These methods allow for the building of healthy
soil and production of crops from that fertile, balanced soil. The primary
goal of organic agriculture is to optimize the health and productivity
of interdependent communities of soil life, plants, and people. We will
offer a large, shared community space as well as small plots for individuals
and families. There will be no fee for use of the space; funding will
be generated via the use of student fees, plant sales, and various other
fundraising activities.

IN GROWING NATIVE PLANTS
Community members are developing a program at Southern Oregon University's
Earth Tribe Community Garden.
Project goals include the development of a growing area to provide for
hands on educational opportunities as well as supplying plants for local
landscape restoration projects. Individuals of all ages and backgrounds
can participate. Bring your positive energies and share your love for
the regions biodiversity. Learn how to grow local plants and about opportunities
to participate in local restoration projects.
This Summers agenda includes erecting a shade/cold frame structure and
the design of a display garden and seed production area.
