Civic Engagement Program
Looking to get more involved in the community? Want to find a great place to volunteer? Interested in traveling to a different community to do service and explore intriguing issues?
The Civic Engagement Program is a resource for all students, clubs and organizations. Through service days and ongoing volunteer placement, we help students build relationships, learn about social issues and be engaged in the community.
Why volunteer?

Here's how you can get involved:
Alternative Spring Break
Get out your suitcase and spend a week with other students immersed in another community learning how they address specific social issues. Make a difference with your spring break and have lots of fun too! Applications will be available online.
Civic Engagement Club
Meet other students interested in service. Weekly meetings are held on Fridays at 2 p.m. in the library.
Make a Difference Day
Join volunteers across the country on this national day of service that happens every October. This year's sites include Emigrant Lake, the Gleaning Network, Habitat for Humanity and more.
Students in Service
Earn $1,000 for school by completing 300 hours of community service. Work study, practicums, capstones and internships all qualify.
Have an idea you don’t see here? We can work with you to make it happen. Contact Civic Engagement Coordinator Julie French at frenchju@sou.edu or 552-6454.
