Civic Engagement Program

Looking to get more involved in the community? Want to find a great place to volunteer? Interested in traveling to a different community to do service and explore intriguing issues?

~The CE program believes that students become active citizens through community service and civic participation in our diverse society.~

The Civic Engagement Program is a resource for all students, student clubs and organizations for service to and engagement in our community. Through service-day events and ongoing volunteer placement, we have the opportunity to build relationships, participate in issues and engage in service to the community. To learn about this quarters events place check out our Upcoming Events page. This year the program launches the Alternative Break program that offers an in-depth service experience in another community combined with education and fun.

Civic Engagement is the act of becoming involved in the community or government in order to solve problems, to help meet a need and to have a voice. This means . . .

  • Identifying & addressing issues of public concern
  • Putting the "greater good" above oneself
  • Joining in common work that promotes the well being of everyone
  • Adding one's voice to community conversations
  • Encouraging other people to participate in public life
  • Advocacy on behalf of others

The Civic Engagement Program also offers the Students in Service program: SIS members make a difference in their communities, gain valuable civic and workforce skills, and upon completion of their term of service, earn an education award.
