Emergency Notification System
Recent unforeseen situations from natural disasters to health scares or other threats of violence shed light on the fact that Southern Oregon University must always be fully prepared. Accordingly, we have implemented an emergency notification sytem called SOU-Alert. This service will enhance the already existing procedures in place for emergency preparedness. With this service, students and employees can be notified with vital instructions anywhere, any time, through messages sent to cell phones, home phones, e-mail accounts, text messaging, pagers, even TTY/TDD enabled devices.
SOU-Alert uses directory information you've already provided to the university and allows students and employees to identify additional information if they choose, like cell phone numbers, alternate phone numbers, and an additional email address. This additional information can be your own or that of parent's/spouse's phone numbers or close friends that you wish to have contacted in case of a campus wide emergency.
Note: Students sign in with your SOU generated ID number and your SOU email account. Staff sign in with your employee ID number and your SOU email account.
Below is an explanation of the contact information you will find in SOU-Alert.
1. Cell Phone - we recommend you provide this number
2. Text Messaging (SMS) - we recommend you provide this number
4. Home Phone
- employees*: number is on file, if incorrect update with Payroll (552-8506)
- students*: number is on file, if incorrect update in SISWeb
4. Work Phone
- employees*: number is on file, if incorrect then update with Telecom (552-6900)

To assure that your e-mail emergency notifications don't land in your Junk Mail you need to set up junk mail filtering. Read this short help document on how to set up junk mail filtering in Groupwise.
If you do not want to receive emergency notifications you can submit a request to restrict your information from being used by SOU-Alert.
