The researchers were looking for a correlation between seating preference and personality and/or academic motivation. Participants were selected from general psychology classes at Southern Oregon University, and they were asked to fill out two simple likert-scale surveys, as well as to mark, on a generic seating chart, where they sit. The first likert-scale was a ten question personality inventory, and the second inventory was a academic motivation scale. After analyzing the participants surveys, the researchers found that there was correlations found between both personality and academic motivation and seating preference. The correlations were found in narsisitic personality types or introverted individuals, and those people intrinsically motivated people. Though the correlations between personality type and seating preference were weak, the correlations found between intrinsically motivated people and seating preference was relatively strong. The researchers found that there is a correlation between seating preference and personality and/or academic motivation.
