The Neighborhood Diaper Bank

Lacey Williams

Government welfare agencies do not provide specific funding and assistance for diapers. Diapers are a basic human need. Low income families cannot take their children to daycare without disposable diapers. If these families cannot take their children to daycare they are unable to work or attend school. This is a vicious cycle that hinders progress made towards improving their lives. The Neighborhood Diaper Bank is an outreach agency that collects and distributes diapers to other agencies in the community such as food pantries, shelters, and clinics. The mission behind the Neighborhood Diaper Bank is important and there needs to be increased awareness toward the local and national deficiency in attaining infant and children's basic needs. A diaper drive benefiting the Neighborhood Diaper Bank at local hospital was created as a step toward increasing this awareness. This project was created not only to increase awareness, but to promote change in our community in regards to meeting children's basic needs, because the implication is that no family should ever have to choose between food and diapers.
