Civic Ecology is a new branch of ecology that explores the effects of community-based programs that foster healthy social and natural systems thus contributing to social-ecological resilience. It implores us to identify strengthens, skills and resources within our communities instead of focusing on the negative effects of humans on ecological systems. In doing so, civic ecology practices benefit the people and areas where they take place. In short civic ecology explores the idea that what is good for your environment is also good for you.
