One is hard pressed to find anyone who has not been personally affected by cancer these days. It can strike any family, at any time. The purpose of Jackapalooza was to raise funds and come together in support of the family of Jack, a boy with spinal cancer. Jack's mother, a single mom, had to take off work this fall in order to accompany Jack to Portland for treatment. This evening of celebration and support included live music, good food & drinks, great friends, dancing, silent auction, raffle and general merriment. I was fortunate to play a small part in this endeavor. I was but one among in the slew of volunteers there. The event raised considerable funds and fun was had by all. This extravaganza raised cancer awareness and brought together the community for a common cause. Jackapalooza is an example of what a relatively small community can do to support their own. The rare type of cancer Jack suffers from may not become a household word but I can assure you that everyone in attendance will never forget it or Jack.
