Prenatal Testing Highly Recommended To All

Jessica Matthews

Having a child with Down syndrome can change people's lives and the way they view the world. Doctors need to highly recommend to their patents to test for Down syndrome because the health risks of testing are very minimal, if the fetus has Down syndrome it helps educate the parents, and the parents have the right to know. Different prenatal tests have different risks but when comparing two of the most common methods there was only a 0.97 percent chance of there being any effect on the fetus at all. Educating the parents about Down syndrome, assuming that the test came back positive for Down syndrome, is the best way for the parents to make the decision if they are going to abort the fetus or not. Knowing the pros and cons about this situation will best help the parents decide which is where the doctors need to step in. Also, it is up to the parents and only them. It is not against the law and no one will be able to make the choice for them. There is no cure for Down syndrome at this time and the public needs to understand that it is a common defect that can happen to anyone having a child.
