Magnet and charter schools have been rapidly growing in the last decade. The increasing enrollment in alternative education is fueled by parents and communities needs to specialize education and its purpose. The intent of the mosaic piece was created in order to honor the Jack Mead Schools philosophy, beautify the courtyard of the K-8 magnet school, and provide the presenter with the opportunity to collaborate with students and teachers in a holistic learning environment. The mosaic piece was created by an 8th grade student from the Jack Mead School and the presenter for both of their capstone projects. The collaboration among the creators, the school, and the community reinforced the goals of the magnet school. The piece was unveiled to the school and community members not only for its aesthetic purpose, but also as a mark that the creators could leave behind. The mosaic piece is a small representation of the underlining relationships and hard work that took place. The presenters' growth and development as a teacher and mentor blossomed and confirms the philosophy of the Jack Mead School.
