The Neighborhood Diaper Bank Diaper Drive for Military Families

Katheryn Leon

The Neighborhood Diaper Bank's (NDB) mission is to build a network to help meet the unmet need for diapers in our community's most vulnerable populations-babies from low income households, the elderly and people with disabilities. There is no assistance for diapers; they're not paid for or provided by WIC, Food Stamps, or Medicare. The NDB visions to see a community in which people who need diapers but do not have adequate resources can get diapers-helping preserve their health, independence, and dignity. The NDB distributes diapers to several different locations in the Jackson County area. The presenter interned with the NDB and during that time the leader of the Jackson County Military Baby Shower asked the NDB to participate through providing diapers for the military families who are expecting or currently have a child in diapers. The diaper drive for military families took place within two weekends in April. There was a collection of over 1500 diapers and received over $800. These diapers will be supplied to military families during the baby shower at the end of April.
