Do you have a passion? Is there a hobby, desire, activity, or career that motivates you? The purpose of this Community-Based Learning Project was for students to learn, discover, and engage in passions that they may never have had the opportunity to otherwise. The Boys & Girls Club of the Rogue Valley and I partnered in creating a program for the children of the Rogue Valley to discover and develop their passions. I coordinated, implemented, and taught in a three-day event where community members, professionals, and educators provided activities and lessons for students to engage in. From this project I have learned that having a passion brings happiness to life and that students have a desire to learn, to discover, and to find their strengths. They benefit from having something to look forward to in life, be it wildlife, music, technology, etc. From this Passion Discovery, students learned passions that would provide opportunities to discover their strengths. Through these discoveries of their passions, I have confirmed that incorporating students' strengths within the classroom can bolster authentic and meaningful tasks.
