Research supports that healthy, positive and engaging school, community, and family relations correlates with the educational success of young children. Establishing a partnership has been a long and difficult struggle. Sunshine Elementary School is no exception to this struggle. In the current financial strains placed on our schools Sunshine Elementary has proven not only to keep recess alive but has reinvented its form: a structured lunch recess program. Students are given an opportunity to choose from one of five areas to spend their lunch recess time: the playground, gymnasium, activity room, computer lab, and art room. In the creation of the new recess program Sunshine Elementary has been able to supplement their academic curriculum with extra-curricular subject areas. However, the task presented to the project organizer was how to increase awareness for the program, its value, and maintain the supply demands to sustain the program for future years. In response to the issue the project organizer reached out to the community and families. The project organizer established a presence within the community, social media, and the homes of families. Through community and family donations of goods and time the recess program appears to have a promising future.
