A Historical Perspective on Current Native American Societies

Alicia Snow

The poster will display a timeline of events throughout the history of the United States. The timeline will describe major incidents between the United States or settlers and American Indians. Some particular points on the timeline: Treaties, Removals, Boarding Schools, Wounded Knee and so on. This leads to present day Native American society. In the early twentieth century Native American peoples numbered around 250,000. Currently their populations amount to over two million. Their cultures have come back from such a harsh past, but there is still a lot of work to be done especially on reservations and issues with discrimination. The timeline of historical events facilitates a clearer picture of current American Indian societies.
