How Have Fluvial Geomorphic Changes in Bear Creek Affected Irrigation Allocations

Mitchell Boyd

Over time the geomorphology of Bear Creek located in Jackson County, Oregon has changed through natural river processes and more notably and recently anthropogenic causes. The anthropogenic influences to Bear Creek from large-scale irrigation beginning in the early 1800s have played a significant role in the current stream attributes. The increase of irrigation allocations within Jackson County has caused a change in the flow of many waterways including Bear Creek. The change in flows of the waterways has changed the morphology of the streams, which then affects the available water for irrigation allocations. Through relevant past research, literature and current stream studies I will create a hypothesis of the affects of Bear Creek stream geomorphology on irrigation allocations of the creek.
