Consilience between Art and Science

John Sollinger

In the hinterlands where two world views converge, therein lay opportunities to attract attention and inform or make commentary on environmental issues, including climate change, which is represented here in glass mosaics. Some of the water that accumulates during the winter in the high elevation snow pack of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument feeds creeks and the Rogue River, creating habitat for aquatic and nearby communities. The magpie, like other mobile life forms, may move to higher elevations as the Rogue Valley warms. Monet's magpie is depicted in an oak savannah one thousand feet higher in elevation than that where the magpies currently range.
