The Roots of Tango

Gladys Diaz

Tango is a ballroom dance accompanied by a partner. Tango is said to originate from African slaves and was introduced in the ghettos of Argentina. However, it expanded in Europe when tango was becoming increasingly popular throughout wealthy families. From there families practiced tango when they traveled to Europe and fascinated the crowd making tango expand internationally.  My poster argues whether or not tango should be really considered a Latin dance or if it should be considered international. My research will go over tango's birth, the history it has connected to Argentina, and the history its expansion in Europe.
