Beginning in 776 BC, wrestling has had a long standing tradition in the Olympic games, claiming the title of one of the original games. Created in Ancient Greece, where wrestling is known as "Pale", it was the most popular sport of the time in Europe. In 2012 the International Olympic Committee made a decision to eliminate wrestling from the Olympic games, causing an uproar in the wrestling community. We will explain the decision making process of the International Olympic Committee, and why, arguably, the most influential Olympic sport has been eliminated.
