This project is a capstone presentation by a group of Human Services students. We will present a mock program proposal presenting a social issue and illustrating a need for services. We will address the issue of K-12 homeless students in Jackson County and highlight that the percentage of homeless students in the population of students enrolled is distinctly higher in remote areas within the county. Students living in such areas have scarce resources available to them in order to meet their basic needs. They often live in dire or even dangerous situations and experience many barriers to school attendance and performance. Our project proposal will demonstrate the need to fill in the gap where services are lacking, to give homeless students some immediate necessities to help them cope. We would seek funds to start a program to address this need and the presentation details of what we might offer in such a program.
