My research shows how salsa's dancing history has been shaped by the media. By reviewing the history of salsa dancing (without media involved) it is understood where and why this form was practiced, along with where, how, why, and when this dance form started. Examining the start of salsa history when the media begun to focus on stereotyping the dance, there was an unease of what salsa would look like. The message the media portrays about this dance form, who was the target audience, the day and age of this art, and by whom this dance is learned, are all important aspects of this evolving dance form. The research compares who dances this form and what stereotypes and discrimination are involved. What salsa dancing is now and what salsa dancing was before the influence of media re-iterates salsa dancing's history and how it has been shaped in contemporary culture.
