Southern Oregon University Special Education graduate students partnered with Great Shape! Inc. The Super Kids Foundation in a humanitarian effort to increase literacy amongst primary school children in Jamaica. Super Kids is a literacy empowerment project that encompasses teacher trainings, curriculum, and classroom resources in reading, computers, sports, art, and music. Super Kids has key partnerships in Jamaica, including the Sandal's Foundation, Sandals Resorts International, and the Jamaican Ministries of Health and Education. In November a group of SOU Special Education graduate students traveled to Negril, Jamaica in order to participate in this project with a goal to improve literacy rates, exchange teacher skills, provide resources, and build collaborative relationships across cultures.
