Excite the Students and Control the Classroom with Teacher Controlled NearPod Technology on iPads

Ashley Schwedes

The purpose of this study was to explore the integration of iPads into a math unit in the classroom. The participants of this study were a third grade class at a local elementary school. The students participated in lessons with iPads using the program NearPod along with traditional lessons and they provided survey feedback after each lesson. Additionally I compared the amount of time it took for me to create iPad technology lessons versus non-technology lessons. I found that there was a slight increase in student focus when technology based lessons were presented. I also found that it was usually faster to create interactive technology lessons with NearPod than traditional white board or Smartboard lessons. Interactive technology should be implemented in classroom instruction, especially when new information is being presented due to the captivating effect it has on students.
