The families that I teach are mainly lower income families who are served by Snap Benefits, OHP, TANF, or CPS. Clothing is not covered by any of these programs except TANF I was seeing a major need for clothing and other household items. The down turn of the economy and families losing one or both of their jobs, has placed a large burden onto the system. Many of the local programs that are set to help these families have seen an overwhelming influx of need with a shortage of items donated to allow for them to help support these families. I have put into place a clothing and household item exchange for these families to help each other. By doing so, these families will have access to these needed items at no or low cost to them. Setting up the exchange allowed for more families to be assisted through this and other local programs.
