I chose to do my capstone on something I am passionate about, child abuse. The number of child abuse reports that are made by staff in our educational program each year is upsetting to me. I do not think that enough is being done to prevent child abuse from happening in our community so I decided to teach a new demographic of our population about child abuse. I did a training and project with high school students who are members of an Early Childhood Education course to heighten awareness of child abuse among this age group and what they can do to prevent it. Many of the students in this training are also parents of young children so choosing to work with them has a dual purpose since reports of child abuse are high among young parents.
