Using a monochrome Meade Deep Sky Imager (DSI) with a system of color filters (RBG) and a six inch telescope, the purpose of this capstone project was to locate, observe, and photograph celestial objects then create color pictures using computer software. Included in this project is also the development of an instruction manual, detailing step by step procedures, which will be useful to those who wish to use the DSI and to students who wish to continue working on astrophotography research projects in the future. During the course of this project monochrome pictures of celestial objects have been taken, and combined into color images. The presentation includes images of Jupiter (with 4 moons) and of the Great Orion Nebula (Messier object 42). Other pictures have been recorded including the planets Mars and Saturn and stars of the Milky Way as they move across the night sky.
