C.A.F.E. standards for automotive emissions and efficiency have caused auto manufactures to try to lighten autos in an effort to meat these standards. AA6111 is an aluminum alloy that has been used for several years in hood and trunk lids. This material's mechanical properties are improved after undergoing the thermo-mechanical processes used in manufacturing. However the effect of these processes on corrosion of the material is not known. The study that is under way will show how these processes effect the corrosion behavior or AA6111 aluminum alloy.
