For my Capstone Community Based Learning project I taught a class about the life cycle of butterflies to children 4-10 years old at ScienceWorks Children's Museum. Through literature, art and science the children learned about and explored each stage of a butterfly’s life. After our investigations the children created their own artistic representations of each stage. I have always been fascinated with butterflies and their drastic transformations. I really enjoy exploring nature with children. I thought exploring such an interesting piece of nature with children would be a great experience. From this project I experienced how great it is to volunteer in my community. Giving back to a place that gives so much to me is a wonderful feeling. It was also exciting to learn, explore and create with children. The students made some phenomenal representations of butterflies in each stage of life. After completing my Community Based Learning Project I look back and reflect upon the experience. I was reminded of how good it felt to teach children and volunteer in the community in which I live.
