Teen Suicide Trends and Prevention Strategies

My research is on Suicide trends in teens and young adults (through age 24), the fears and myths that keep some pro-active approaches from reaching full potential and additionally prevention programs currently available in Middle Schools, High Schools and Universities. I researched journals, suicide prevention programs, the most recent local and national data and statistics on suicide and suicide prevention . I also interviewed staff and volunteers at Ashland Middle school, Ashland High school, and Southern Oregon University. There is protocol set in place at all three institutions in regards to suicide prevention and some pro-active approaches being implemented. As with any public health concern there is always room for improvement. Due to the rise in the suicide rate amongst this age group, our community should increase its awareness and prevention strategies for faculty, parents and youth. My research supports an ongoing pro-active approach.
