Groupthink: How to Avoid it on an Organizational and Leadership Level

Tragic events throughout history have transpired due, in part, to decision-making processes influenced by groupthink, a faulty communication style that occurs when groups places so much emphasis on solidarity that they do not realistically scrutinize a proposed idea or give sufficient consideration to other options. This presentation is the culmination of a literature review exploring the leadership styles and environments that can allow groupthink to transpire. Also examined is a contemporary organizational structure, the Learning Organization, and the attributes it possesses that allows it to prevent groupthink.
