My research focuses on trends and challenges Muslim women experience when they work outside the home. Books from the 1990s are used in my research, because there is no current information on women in the workforce. I explore different explanations why research is not being conducted and published currently. Women began entering the workforce in larger numbers as men left their homes to fight in wars. Some countries justified women's presence in the workforce by using Muhammad’s granddaughter. Some countries experienced inflation, fluctuations in state control, segregation, discrimination, and global market influences that explain why women were introduced to the public realm of society. As women entered the public realm empowerment organizations were created. Others planned days of action and women conferences with safe forums to express their opinions. Various strategies using conformity, rebellion and the media were used for women to successfully navigate the public and private realms.
