Anthropology: "Out in the World"

This symposium will showcase graduating anthropology majors' abilities to "think anthropologically" and to apply disciplinary concepts and methods in a variety of community-based learning situations. In keeping with the applied orientation of our Anthropology program, practicum experiences provide the basis for students' capstone work. Both practicum venues and resulting analyses are remarkably diverse, combining students personal interests and learning goals, site-specific opportunities and constraints, and career objectives. The presentations in this symposium clearly demonstrate that the anthropological approach can be productively used to decipher meanings and institutions in any setting. Anthropology at SOU is "out in the world," making positive contributions to many aspects of community life.
