Jewelry Throughout Time

Sarah Whitmire

From the beginning of time, jewelry has been a form of self expression. According to Joan Evans "A history of jewelry has closely paralleled the history of mankind. Used as amulets to protect against harm and worn for ceremonial occasions, jewels also signaled wealth, power and position." I plan to replicate five pieces of jewelry that will represent different time periods, including Ancient Egypt, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Victorian era, and present day. I will be making a poster describing what these jewelry pieces can tell us about the person who may have worn them and what they represent. I will show how meaningful jewelry has been throughout time and how we rely on jewelry to show the world who we are.
