Outdoor Adventure Leadership (OAL) students traveled down under to New Zealand and Australia winter term to take classes and to gain experiential leadership experience. While on the adventure, 11 students were able to observe companies and get some hands on experience in the outdoor adventure industry. This study abroad program is only offered to those with a major or minor in OAL. Students improved their hard skills, meaning physical and level of ability in an activity, as well as their soft skills, meaning their ability to think about the process of how skills are done and being prepared mentally. Students who went on the trip took several different classes, ranging from lower-level OAL classes, going over fundamentals, to upper-level, such as senior capstone. Through these classes, students improved and learned about self-efficacy, communication, organization, conflict-resolution, and more. Students not only learned about education on this trip, but also about themselves.
