Come see the second level Jazz Dance class perform a class work in progress: "Feeling Good" (Nina Simone) Lyrical style jazz celebrates theatrical dance with African-American roots. This American art form was born in the twentieth century. As popular music embraced the syncopation of ragtime and jazz music, so did Jazz Dance begin with black dance that made its way into world-wide acceptance on the stage, starting with Charleston in the 1920's, swing dance in the '30's, and onto the Broadway stage with champions Jack Cole and Bob Fosse. Jazz takes its inspiration from the sensual and grounded movement of African dance, and combines it with ballet and modern dance technique to be the standard form in the American musical theater. Come see the second level class perform a piece from our class, set to Nina Simone's "Feeling Good".
