LIFE Art

Ashlie Moore

For my capstone project I teamed up with a group called LIFE Art in order to create a workshop that provided teens with the opportunity to learn film photography. Without this workshop these teens would not have had access to a darkroom. LIFE Art stands for Live Inspire Freedom of Expression. It is a program designed to give teens a creative outlet for expression and an alternative to gangs, substance abuse, depression and even suicide. During the course of a term I worked with a group of four students who were interested in photography. We met twice a week to develop, print and matte photos they had taken using a juice box camera. The goal of this project was to empower these young people and give them a sense of accomplishment. The gallery of their work hangs on the third floor of the Hannon Library in the Retzlaff gallery.
